Dear BDers,

Just thought i'd add my two penneth worth! Quick get that
TOURNEY_GUIDELINES on line or there'll be trouble!

This is a personal view point but I'm sure I won't be alone. Dora
Kemp has already indicated that she (and her team) enjoy playing
against Shitgun and this is a view point I wish to echo (although it
would be nice if they smiled once or twice while they give other
teams a sound thrashing). The only way that 'lesser' teams will
improve is by playing against and watching other more experienced
teams.

In the NM regional Jesters (with many entirely new to the game)
played Catch 22 (who presumably are one of these elite teams which
should not have to qualify) and scored 2 points aginst them. Two
points which brought huge amounts of satisfaction to the whole team.
Such games give players a chance to learn more about good O and D. I
think it was the first time most of my team mates had seen a zone D.
They learnt from it and when the next team tried it on them they
broke easily!

My last point is that if we go down this road of elitism, especially
this early in the evolution of the game in this country, we have to
decide where to draw the line between qualification or not. As far as
I can see this is not poossible until a league type arrangement is
introduced, something which i think has no place in Ultimate at this
stage.

No actually I've got another point! Maybe experienced teams should
use the qualification constructively by 1. encouraging new players on
the opposition (something which you should be able to do seeing as
there is no question of the outcome of the game - smile at them!) or
2. if you really do want to be self centred try some of you nifty
moves out on them and dazzle them with your brilliance!

None of what I have said is directed at anyone/team in particular, I
just think that the needs and preferences of all teams should be
considered rather than just the elite top X teams.

In case you had'nt guessed I think the introduction of the qualifiers
is the best thing since sliced bread and should continue untill the
whole ethos and structure of Ultimate in britain has evolved a bit
further.

If you have bothered to read this far.......thanks!

Rob Kingsley (Jesters)
