A lot of what Scott said I agree with, however, I'm going to stick my
halfpenny's worth as an 'old girl' player.

I have moved around the country A LOT in the past 5 years since leaving
Polytechnic and have practised with local teams when possible. At this
point I would like to thank all the teams who have let me practise with
them and on the whole who have been very welcoming.
HOWEVER I have had the experience where I have not been made welcome at
practices even though when I checked before hand the club contact said I
could attend. The reason I was not made welcome ( I believe) was because
I was not up to their 'standard'. So I stopped going.
So, what should a player do if they move to a new area where there is a
team but they don't want you as a practiser let alone player? I think it
might be idealistic
of us to expect that every team in the country will let anyone who happens
to be in the geographical area play for them (I do , however, believe that
the majority of teams would do this). I also believe this is more of an
issue if you are not the world's greatest player. I'm not alone in this as
I know there are
other people out there who are concerned who would let them play with them
if their telephone team falls apart because their geographical team won't
have
them.
I wouldn't be surprised if lots of 'old boy/girl' players stop playing
because of this and this makes my hackles rise! Why should people be in a
situation where they can't play the game they love (except at tournaments)
because someone has decided they are not good enough?

My personal gripe over!
