Subject: Infera - Program for inferring rankings from game scores
Sender: owner-britdisc@warwick.ac.uk
Precedence: bulk

Dear Britdisc,

a year ago I wrote a program for inferring rankings from game scores.
The reasons for doing this are described
here: http://wol.ra.phy.cam.ac.uk/ultimate/infera/
The program was tested on last year's regionals data but hasn't been
used for an ultimate tournament. (I have used it to predict outcomes
of soccer games, though, and won some bets at Littlewoods!)

This is a note to let you know that I still think this program
is a good idea, and I will probably use it to rank teams
in the 97 southeast regionals. It allows you to set up arbitrary
tournament schedules and still deduce team rankings from the results
in a fair way at the end of the day.

If you want to see an example of the output produced by
the program (e.g. graphical output with `error bars'
on the team rankings) then take a look at the postscript file
available here: http://wol.ra.phy.cam.ac.uk/ultimate/infera/

If anyone is interested in having their tournament scores
put through this program, please follow the instructions given here:
http://wol.ra.phy.cam.ac.uk/ultimate/infera/request

and send me an email.

Yours,
	David the Inference Man
