Dear All

Wayne Retter has asked for the hard copy of the BUSA student eliglibity
rules. I spoke to Edinburgh sports union president about getting
SUSA (Scottish University Sports Association) recognition for the
Scottish League now up and running in Scotland, and regulations of
eligibility seemed quite clear to her with regard to BUSA and SUSA in
that:-

ANY full time Matriculated student of Edinburgh University is allowed
to play of the said sport. Ie in Edinburgh's case students at Heriot
Watt or Napier Uni would not be allowed to play in a student
tournament/league that was affiliated to BUSA or SUSA. Also any
student of that institution could play regardless of experience etc..

I did ask for a hard copy of BUSA regulations and she wasn't sure
where she could get her hands on one if there is one.
Although there must be some consitution kicking around somewhere.

With regard of getting SUSA recognition she was quite optimistic,
as we have 6 Uni's in the league. To get SUSA recognition first off
the sport has to be recognised by the sports union presidents which
they are, if part of the university sports union.

The SUSA committee then will discuss and decide the proposal of the
league being affliated to SUSA. (SUSA committee comprises of all the
Sports union presidents in Scotland )

How ultimate will benefit from recognition I don't know yet, the chair
person of SUSA will be in contact with me soon to discuss more about
what it is all about, how we can benefit and what exactly we have to
do etc. I will keep you posted.

At the moment teams could lose out if some players are eliminated for
playing as they are not in the right university, but this could
serve as a catalyst for them setting up clubs of their own in their
own uni. Official recognition from official sporting bodies can only be
an overall benefit for ultimate as a whole. Although we would
perhaps have to play by their rules rather than our own.

cheers

James
