Information Pack

Here's the letter that Chris has recently sent out to the team contacts,
along with two photocopied maps and an official Cheltenham guide that
contains all sorts of useful information.

The information contained in the guide can probably also be found on the
Cheltenham Spa website, accessable via the links on this site.

I'm afraid that you'll have to get to the website http://www.phidelta.de
mon.co.uk/nati98/ for the maps...

5 February 1998

Hello Ultimate people,

Ok., here is all the information that you need for the tournament on the
14th and 15th of February. The two sites are Cheltenham and Gloucester
College of Higher Education, Hardwick Campus sports hall (Hall 1), and
Pate's Grammar School (Hall 2).

At this stage, there are complications in the schedule due to teams
moving between regions, however I am hoping to organise the schedule so
that teams will only play in the morning or afternoon on Saturday.
Unfortunately this is going to be awkward if bizarre numbers of teams
turn up. So this is the info so far; games will start at 9:00 on
Saturday, with a captain's meeting at 8:45 in hall 1, the college sports
hall. If you do not hear from us otherwise, assume all teams have to be
here for then. I will attempt to contact you prior to the tournament to
confirm this or else give you new information. If you have not heard
from me by Wednesday night, ring or email myself or Wayne and we can
update you.

I recommend the following routes; (BEWARE SPEED CAMS!)

North (Birmingham'ish): Come down the M5, to J10, and turn towards
Cheltenham on the A4019. Go past Sainsburys, past the TVR and BMW
garages, and then turn left at the roundabout, onto Kingsditch Lane.
Turn right at the mini-roundabout on to Swindon Road. Over the railway,
be careful of the narrow bridge. Follow the road left at the next mini-
roundabout. Past The Railway pub, and turn left at the next mini-
roundabout onto St Paul's Road. You need to turn immediately left into
Hardwick Campus. If you reach the railway bridge you have gone too far.

London / South: The fastes route now is not the M40 / A40, but instead
along the M4 to J19 and the A419 at Swindon to Cirencester, follow that
road straight onto the A417 (both brand new roads with no speed cams.).
Stay on the A417 to J11A of the M5 and get on to go one junction north
to J11 (A40). Then follow the next set of directions.

South-West (Bristol'ish): Up the M5 to J11 and onto the A40 towards
Cheltenham. Straight over the first roundabout, past GCHQ, and turn left
at the next roundabout, onto Princess Elizabeth Way, the A4013. Go
straight across the square roundabout, i.e. opposite corner, back onto
Princess Elizabeth Way. Go past Pate's Grammar School , Hall 2, and
carry on until the roundabout by the Rover Garage. Straight across onto
Kingsditch Lane. Turn right at the mini-roundabout on to Swindon Road.
Over the railway, be careful of the narrow bridge. Follow the road left
at the next mini-roundabout. Past The Railway pub, and turn left at the
next mini-roundabout onto St Paul's Road. You need to turn immediately
left into Hardwick Campus. If you reach the railway bridge you have gone
too far.

A40 East (Oxford'ish): Follow the A40 all the way through Cheltenham
towards the M5, and eventually you will come to Lansddown Road, The
Junction has a Petrol Station in the middle of the road in a roundabout.
Carry along Lansdown Road until it become a single lane over a bridge.
Turn right immediately after at the traffic lights, by the Lotus garage,
onto Gloucester Road, the B4633. Past the Railway station, over the
mini-roundabout. Past a number of traffic lights, past JJB Sports and
tesco's. At the next set of lights, outside lane and straight on into
Townsend St. (one way). Turn left at the end onto Swindon Road, and then
immediately turn rightat the mini-roundabout onto St Paul's Road. The
sportshall is in Hardwick Campus, immediately on the left.

Accomodation, is limited in terms of floor space, however I recommend
the Hunters Lodge, at Cheltenham Racecourse (p35 of guide), rooms for 2
to 5 at 25 to 50, including TV and full English breakfast, although
you are more than welcome to try elsewhere. I would recommend booking if
interested (for the cocky amoungst you - do not try and book for
nationals: it is the Cheltenham festival the day after, and they are
already full) If you are struggling for accomodation ring Cheltenham
tourist info, and they can help.

There are, at this stage at least 7 qualifying places for Nationals
(14th/15th March) from the midlands region, although this will be
confirmed on the day. In an effort to minimise the captains meeting,
here are the tournament rules and information;

- Games are either 18 minutes, first to 13 points, or else 23 minutes,
first to 15 points. There are no timeouts.
- Draws are allowed in pool games. In case of tied teams in the pools,
teams will be seperated by overall points difference, overall points
scored, then points difference between the tied teams, and then points
scored between the tied teams. Head-to-head results are not taken into
account.
- Draws are not allowed in playoff games. If games are tied at end of
time, the hooter will not sound, and the game will continue, without a
check until there is a winner.
- Please vacate the pitches immediately after your game and cheer off
the pitch.
- Please will players not throw around anywhere other than on the pitch
or outside. Not in corridors or other rooms.
- Teams should have enough time to move between the sports halls. Games
will only be rescheduled if the sportshalls get out of sync.
- Please place all your rubbish in the bins provided, and have
consideration for other users of the site at all times.
- At Hardwck Sports Hall; beware of security in your cars, there have
been a number of break-ins recently, secure your car and valubles, and
please be aware of other peoples cars as well as your own.

This should provide all the information you need at the moment, If you
have any questions or problems please contact us ASAP, particularly with
reference to starting times.

Thanks,

Chris
