Just a few thoughts to add to the pot and stir.

1. I like the idea of regional development and a regional
championships provides a focus for that as well as allowing some
teams an opportunity for minor glory. Taking out the top teams would
screw that up.

2. Teams can change dramatically year to year so you should start
from fresh and justify your place. STAN face nationals without the
UTI boys for instance. If as Oz suggests the top 3 get byes would this
be fair, how many players could we lose and still justify a bye?

3. In case you don't read the disc newsgroup there is a controversy
raging in the states about regionals and the need to qualify. It is
not about how it was a waste of time for a top team, it was about how
the World Club Champions - Double Happiness failed to qualify. With
hindsight we can say that regional results were predictable, but
upsets can happen.

4. Shotgun are too damn good for the rest of us. They get the
rewards in terms of titles and they have to accept that the downside
is a lack of good opposition. Things would have been a lot more
interesting for everybody if Hombres had not merged with Regulators
to form Shotgun. Eleven years ago Jim Edwards, Sam Neilson and I
enjoyed similar dominance with Tennants, but we decided to forego the
glory and split off to form STAN. How about you Shotgun types
demerging?

PS We won't be seeing Harry Golby at our Nationals, now that he has
qualified for the US Nationals with Rage.
