Dear Si (and Everyone Else),

With regard to the weekend's tournament in Leicester, as you so
rightly pointed out in your last missive to Britdisc:

> Lawrence kindly agreed to do a Newsletter-Report.

I really don't know how to put this, but...

Filled with plans of making approaches to as many teams as I could on
Sunday, getting people's opinions on the tournament, the upsets they
had seen, the great layouts they'd performed, the teams they wanted
to bitch about, I *did* have plans to put together a tournament report,
the journalistic standards of which had never before been experienced
in British Ultimate.

However, a hellish day playing Iron Man (sometimes 6) in the wind
and rain with squad including 3 'first outdoor tournament' players, a
vicious groin strain (not half as funny as it sounds), a soul
destroying evening on a walking tour of the run down industrial
areas of Leicester, and experiencing the Herculean task of finding a
taxi at 12:45am, meant that by the time my head touched pillow on Sat
night I had reached the limit of physical and mental endurance.

When Sunday arrived, (an hour earlier than usual), and brought with it
2 games back to back first thing, with only a 30 minute gap before a
third, rather than the compilation of a tournament report- my thoughts
turned to how in the hell I was going to manage to drive back to
Manchester without falling asleep at the wheel.

>From this, and with the backing of my teammates, we decided to leave
Leicester as soon as possible, following our final game. Whilst I
would have enjoyed watching the final, and I'm always loathe to miss
a presentation, in balance this seemed the sensible thing to do.

Please allow me to apologise for not being able to write a tournament
report, per se (I hardly think my own subjective view of such a large
and diverse tournament could possibly give a fair reflection) and,
more importanty, for not contacting you yesterday at the tournament
to arrange an alternative. I feel particularly embarrassed as it was
me who was partially responsible for kicking off all the tournament
report debate in the first place.

I hope somebody can fill in the placings details, and who won what
awards, and that this doesn't cause you too much hassle regarding the
Tour Newsletter.

Sorry again,
Love & Luck,

Lawrence
