Continuing from what Laura said...

1. Nice one Laura. Wise words.

2. From the perspective of providing women's tourneys -
for those of you who didn't see it in Tour Flya I there
will be a women's division at Tour V in Exeter this year.

I hope that this will be a success - and that it will lead
to us having a women's division at some (I doubt all) of
the Tour Events in 1999. I appreciate the worries about
whether there are quite enough women players for this;
and also that in 99 some thought will have to be put to
the needs of the teams/players in (hopefully 3?) women's
teams going to WUCC in St. Andrews.

3. In response to Jim:
>I believe that splitting the sport into single sex competitions would be
>a very bad idea. Having *sold* Ultimate at countless Fresher's Fairs, I
>am certain that one of the unique selling points of the sport is the
>fact that men and women can AND DO play together in a game.

>Without this, I don't believe we would attract as many women to even
>attempt to play, which in turn surely can't be any good for Women's
>Ultimate, or for Ultimate in general.

I don't think I could disagree more strongly, (having sold ultimate
at countless Fresher's Fairs!)
For the last few years we've had good numbers of women at the
beginning of the year (here in Leeds) - but they leave. In particular,
those that we 'coaxed' from the netball club by offering free membership
are immediately struck by the strangeness of such a physical game
being played in such an unstructured co-ed fashion.

I think I've made my views on this clear before.
Back to work.
