Dear all,

I have been reading with interest, the debate about the creation of
an 'elite' division for competitions etc.
I've got to agree with Si Hill that this is the way forward, as long
as there is equal provision made for those teams, who do not manage
to gain entry (and there will be an awful lot left out).
A second division has to be created, so that these
teams can also play in protected competition, away from the top
teams. This is essential for the following reasons:-
1) It will give the lesser teams equal chance to play just as many
tournaments as the elite teams.
2) It will enable the improvement of lesser teams, as more games at these
tournaments will be closer - and in my opinion it is these games
that make weekends and really improve your playing ability. This
should (hopefully) increase the competition at the tournaments where
the elite spots for the next year are up for grabs. As the teams
which have been performing well in the lower ranks may have the
new-found confidence to challenge those who have been 'struggling' in
the elite division.
3) There will be added incentive at tournaments, as the teams which
will be making it through to quarters, semis and finals will not be
the usual superteams, so more teams will be in with a chance.

I know that everyone wants to see ultimate grow at all levels in this
country. To succeed in this, every standard has to be catered for and
helped by the BUF, as well as by the ordinary players in this country,
of which I am pleased to be one.

Thanks for reading,

Jim
