Well, I've resisted the urge so far to post something to all BDers (although I
seem to have picked up the jargon...), but I felt that in order to maintain
Chris Hughes' already shredded reputation I should put finger to keyboard.

The idea for a Womens' Nationals came to me after the World
Championships in Sweden. After a preliminary talk with Simon Hill I thought
that maybe it was not such a good idea, what with scheduling nightmares
etc. However, Simon called me later and told me that it was entirely
possible. Pitches were allocated and I (well Jonathan and Sue, actually)
scheduled the games. There was at one point 9 teams, but this plummeted
to 6 on Saturday, then 4 on Sunday. The only input that Chris and Simon
had after allocating pitch time, was buying the trophies. It has to be said,
though, that Chris told me the Thursday before that there was no Spirit
trophy for us and then told me there was once I was standing in front of the
throbbing masses on Sunday afternoon. But I had kind of decided that this
was not a big problem since the new teams who played did not know the
rules, let alone know how to enforce them in a spirited way. (NB it should
not be forgotten that Spirit of the Game is all about how you play the game,
not how good your Abba medley is afterwards.)

All in all, I got a good feedback from all the women involved. I hope the
Womens' Nationals will continue to be part of the British Ultimate calendar.
And I would like to thank Chris and Simon for their part in making last
weekend a success.

The Results:
1. Twin Peaks
2. Bliss
3. Funky Nuns
4. Dolly Mixtures (awarded an impromptu spirit trophy)
5. Hint of Lime (Saturday only)
6. Diva (2 games only!)
