Hello BDers,=20

Reading between the lines of people's responses to Aram's 'pet peeve' abo=
ut non-geo teams, they seem to be assuming that any regulations that migh=
t be imposed upon teams to encourage the growth of 'geo' teams need to be=
introduced all at once. This comes as no surprise, since we have a tende=
ncy not to look past the next year.

I see no reason why change shouldn't be phased in over time. For sure, we=
will have different opinions about the optimum schedule.

* The first objective should be to take a census of ultimate in the UK, s=
o that we can make decisions on the basis of fact rather than hearsay.=20=

* Once this is done, we can define what the regions will be in the contex=
t of the demographics of our players and the proposed new structure of co=
mpetition (see Si Hill's "at last").

* Then we can decide how many players of what type teams can field within=
the first year, second year, third year and so on.

Teams and individuals will have time to plan for change, and in time we w=
ill have a spread of teams and a competition structure that achieves what=
most people seem to feel is a good idea.

As Si Hill has suggested, there is no reason why teams of any one nature =
need feel 'outlawed' (to use Sam's phrase). Competition can be structured=
to meet the needs of all types of teams. The problem at present is that =
in trying to meet the needs of all types of team (with different prioriti=
es and objectives) as one entity, we end up satisfying none.=20

As a final point, we often moan that we are not taken seriously as a spor=
t. We will not get something for nothing. If we start behaving like we ta=
ke ourselves seriously by structuring competition and team rosters, then =
perhaps interest from sponsors, the media and the like will grow with us.=
