This is a special early invitation to European and other non-North
American teams for Potlatch 97. Regular invitations will be sent to N.
American teams in the spring, but I want to make sure people planning for
worlds know (speaking of worlds, the Vancouver crew is doing a wonderful
job so far - it should be another amazing tourney. Don't miss it!).

Feel free to pass this on to your overseas contacts... Joey G.

o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o

The Northwest Ultimate Association invites European, Asian, South American
and Pacific Island teams to the 8th Annual COED POTLATCH near Seattle,
Washington on July 12-13, 1997 (2 weeks before Club Worlds in Vancouver).

Planning for Friday July 11th is also underway, so people should try to
come early. We *may* add games on Friday if there is enough interest and
we *may* organize a golf tournament. (no promises) Let me know if you're
interested. In any case, there will be a FRIDAY PARTY.

"POTLATCH" is a local native word meaning "giving". In this spirit, teams
give each other wonderful gifts at the cheer.

Play is coed (mixed), with at least 3 (no more than 4) of both genders
playing at all times. Ideal Potlatch teams have 6-7 women and 7-8 men.
Consider a theme team! We've had lefties, redheads and jo names so far.
All levels of players are welcome.

There were 60 teams on one site in '96 and we'll have room for at least
that many in '97. We may have to limit the number of teams, depending on
demand. We welcome spirited teams from other lands, so if your team is
from afar; you are responsibible and like to have fun; you have enough
women; and you sign up on time you will get a spot.

Potlatch includes fields, camping, dinner, and party, thanks to many many
volunteers from Seattle teams. We don't think you'll be disappointed.
Ask the Frizzly Bears Juniors for their Potlatch '96 report.

The price for '97 is not set. Last year it was $220 US/team and we barely
made it so the team fee for '97 will probably be between $250 and $300,
depending on things we won't know until spring. There will be some
advantage to paying early. (If you think it's expensive, you're right!
Sorry, but the fields alone will be over $5000. Plus it is still less
than Calgary's Ho-Down.)

If you arrive in Seattle early or plan to stay late, we can put you in
touch with our housing coordinator who will have a list of couches, guest
rooms and floor space for local hosts. Some advance warning (in the
spring) would be nice, but not necessary.

Teams must have 6-7 confirmed women to sign up. Free-agent WOMEN without
teams are also very welcome to pick up with other teams who need women
(there are always a few slacker teams who show up with too few women). It
is also possible for 6-7 women to sign up as a team and then pick up men
at the tourney (I don't know what you're thinking, but I mean to PLAY
FRISBEE with!) There always seem to be extra men needing teams, so that
would not be a problem.

Interested? Write Joey Gray at discnw@speakeasy.org or mail the Northwest
Ultimate Association at PO Box 85112 Seattle WA 98145 USA. My home number
is 206-528-3836 and messages can be left at 206-286-1106.

We'd love to see you at Potlatch '97.
