The latest news from the newly re-structured Sport Council(s) is that they
have had a second meeting of their Recognition Panel on 7 November 1996.
The previous meeting in May 1996 resulted in NO FORMAL REPLY about the
status of Disc Sports - they used the excuse of the re-structuring of the
Sports Council(s) for their lack of response.

The outcome from the second meeting has to be fed through TWO further
boards before an OFFICIAL REPLY can be expected. These 'boards' are due to
take place in December and January, so we MAY get a written response in
February (incidentally, it would appear that these 'boards' did not sit to
discuss the recommendations of the May 1996 Recognition Panel, which is
their reason for not having replied to our original application).

Our official application was submitted in January 1996, which means that a
full 12 months will have elapsed without any formal response. We did send a
letter to the November meeting of the Recognition Panel to further push our
case. The Chair of that panel refuses to be drawn into a telephone
discussion about our case, but frustratingly says (off the record, of
course) that he was NOT optimistic.

In summary - we have not given up hope, but it is important that all those
with a vested interest are aware of the realistic chances of Sports Coucil
recognition as they stand at present. The BFDF / BUF / BDGA 'thinktank'
have convened a meeting for next week to discuss our next moves.

The battle is not over ... Hell, it has hardly begun!

In the meantime, there is still much we can do in preparation.

Take care,

Sam Neilson,
National Director of the BFDF.
