Hi Folks

This message should tell you all you need to know about the regional. If
not, ask someone else.

The original intention to split Saturday into AM and PM for pool games has
been abandoned - the timing only worked for 24 teams. With only twenty
(19?) we need to begin crossovers on Saturday afternoon. Captains' meeting
is therefore at 0845hrs.

FORMAT: (subject to ammendment in the event of a complete disaster, or at my
whim.....)

Four pools of five, with games of 20 minutes.
Crossovers for 16 teams of 20 minutes. The top team in each pool qualifies
without a crossover.
quarters and semis for top 16 of 20 minutes.
Bottom 4 play round robin of 20 minute games.
Position playoffs for top 16 of 40 minutes plus cap. No complaints!

First games as follow:

SPIRIT:

To avoid three and four way ties, as have been common of late, SOTG will not
be decided by a vote but on a scoring system (It's been done somewhere
before, possibly Leicester???) Forms will be given out at Captains' meeting
- each team you play will be given a score out of five. No guidelines will
be given - it's up to you to judge what merrits a particular score. If you
don't get a rep to the meeting please make sure you pick up this form and
score after each game.

DIRECTIONS:

The maps (posted) are so straight-forward that you probably won't need
directions in the city itself but here they are anyway. The city road
system is in a grid format, and roads are numbered (V for vertical roads, H
for horizontal roads) - signposts before each roundabout tell you which road
you are approaching. All roundabouts are named, and signs are easily
visible.

>From the north, east midlands (M1):

Come off the M1 at junction 14, turning right, into Milton Keynes.

At the first roundabout (Northfield) take the third exit onto H5. Cross
four roundabouts (Pineham, Pagoda, North Overgate and North Skeldon) and at
fifth roundabout (Belvedere) turn right onto V8. Cross one roundabout
(Downs Barn) and at next roundabout (Redbridge) turn left onto H3. At first
roundabout (Stantonbury) turn right onto V7 and the entrance to Stantonbury
Campus is the first on your right.

>From the south east (M1):

Come off the M1 at junction 14, turn left into Milton Keynes and follow
directions for traffic from the north, east midlands (M1), starting at the
Northfield roundabout, (paragraph 2, "At the first roundabout.....")

>From the south, south east (M40):

Leave the M40 at junction 9, and head east into Bicester.

The first two or three miles will be on the A41 (duel carriageway.) Go
straight on at all times, following signs for Buckingham, and you will end
up on the A421. It will take you 15 or 20 minutes to reach Buckingham - the
road bypasses the town itself. By this point signs for Milton Keynes will
have appeared. At a final, two-exit roundabout, a sign will direct "Milton
Keynes north" traffic to the left, "Milton Keynes" traffic to the right.
Follow the north route and turn left. Drive down the hill (for about a
mile), over a small roundabout, and at the main roundabout turn right onto
the A422.

This road will take you (in about ten or fifteen minutes) to a large
roundabout with traffic-control on the A5 (a Little Chef will be on your
right hand side.) Turn right onto the A5 south-bound (duel carriageway.)
Come off the A5 at the first exit (signs for the A422.) Take the second
exit onto the A422 (H3) and drive straight over two roundabouts (Stacey
Bushes and Bancroft) (past the concrete cows! - left hand side after the
railway over-pass.) At the third roundabout (Stantonbury) turn left onto V7
and the entrance to Stantonbury Campus is the first on your right.

>From the north, west midlands (M40):

NB. I've only ever driven this route in reverse, and can't remember it all
that well, but signposts were pretty accurate and it all seemed
straight-forward. It can't be particularly difficult, but if in doubt, use
directions for south west traffic.

Leave the M40 at junction 11 and take the A422 to Brackley. The first part
of the journey will be dual carridgeway. At some point along this you need
to turn right at a roundabout and go up a hill, single carridgeway. This is
still the A422. Stay on the A422 for what seems like forever, through
Buckingham and on towards Milton Keynes. Beyond Buckingham, you are on the
same road as south east traffic. Follow directions from the third paragraph
("This road will take you.....")

>From the west, south west, south:

>From this side of the country, whatever road you take, you will need to
bypass Oxford (A40 from Cheltenham, A420 from Swindon, A34 from Newbury
etc.)

When you reach the outskirts of Oxford, if you are not already on it, take
the A34 northbound, for M40 north traffic etc. At the M40 junction (9)
drive straight over, heading for Bicester, and follow directions for south,
south east (M40) from paragraph 2, ("the first two or three miles.....")

I can't think of anything more I need to say except drive carefully and I'll
see you on Saturday.

Bye......

Mark
