David MacKay has nominated me to take the organisational reins while he
is away, so to follow up Laura's email just now:

Anyone who can join our slowly growing band of enthusiastic geriatrics
will be welcomed with open arms. Please respond to me, Britdisc, the
GBM list (gbm@mrao.cam.ac.uk), whatever, but please do it *quickly*!
Like before Thursday afternoon, when I for one will be out of email
contact for Easter. If you want details of costs etc then visit the
official website for Clubs 99 at: http://www.ultilinks.com/wucc99/

So don't worry about numbers ("I'll go if there are enough others
going") - we *are* the numbers! As Nolan said: "It would be a disgrace
rather than just a disaster if there were no GBM team"

Cheers

PS Don't know how I got myself involved in all this - I guess I just
don't want to waste the only chance I'll ever have to (sort of)
represent my country [can you hear those violins play....]

My apologies for yet another message about the masters division at
Clubs.

I received the following message from Charlie Mead yesterday:
(please also see my additions/clarifications)

Just a word to you all.

1. It is highly unlikely that any of the Open teams will make it into
WUCC
except UTI and Catch.

(LP: There are currently 35 of the 40 teams in the open division
registered,
which is why it is highly unlikely that there will be any spare slots in
the
division - does this mean there are any players who would like to play
masters in view of this information?)

2. Masters is currently short of one team IF GB only sends one team.
This
will be offered to Canada who will take it. If you do not register one
team
by April 7th the other slot will be offered to USA who will take it, so
it
is decision time!

(LP: You can see from this that any team not registered by 7th April
will
lose their slot)

Someone needs to take a lead here. I think it reflects very poorly on
BUF if
you cannot fill at least one Masters slot. It will also have a serious
knock-on effect on seeding for next World Championships in Germany.

(LP: I will be very disappointed if we cannot fill one of the slots in
the
Masters division, especially after requesting a second one.)

LP:
With Easter at the end of this week, the amount of time to organise this
is
minimal, so if you're a master and you want to play at Clubs, NOW is the
time to do something about it.
