Dear all,

A big thank you to all those who responded about our proposal to turn the
BUF into an association. Without exception, all the responses were positive
to the principle of the idea. It seems we have overcome the biggest hurdle
facing the plan!

Many of you raised important questions about the practicalities of the
proposal. We now hope to flesh it out further taking these questions into
consideration. Specifically, the following concerns were raised:-

1) How to avoid discouraging new/casual/foreign players. Clearly asking a
brand new player to pay full membership is not on.

2) How to charge university students appropriately. Some of you favour a
lower student individual membership rate (could this still be covered by the
student unions???).

3) How to deal with students who play for non-student teams.

4) That the BUF is transparent about what is being paid for and what it
provides to members.

5) What actual budget would be required to fund the association - can this
be met from the membership fees? Would some degree of tournament taxing with
lower membership fees be appropriate?

6) Who will recruit and then supervise the employed persons.

7) Changes to the organisation's constitution.

There will - we hope - be an issue of Ultimatum circulated soon which will
include the flyer which most of you have already seen. We need to make sure
the non-Internet teams get a chance to respond before ploughing on.

If you have not yet expressed your thoughts on the proposal then please feel
free to contact us:-
