This year's Dublin Open lived up to the hard drinking standards
set over the past four years. Twelve teams managed to shake
off their hangovers in time to compete. The final results were:

12: UWE
11: Aberdeen
10: Bears
9 : PDQ
=7: Abusive Fever
=7: Bears
6 : Mwnci See (Spirit)
5 : Whiplash (Plate)

4: Mild Mannered Janitors
3: Pookas II
2: Pookas I
1: Mild Mannered Janitors (Cup)

At the end of the first day four teams finished 4-0 - the two
Dublin squads and two contingents of Janitors (generously
laced with serious drinkers from Jedi, Chevron, Catch etc.)
By mutual agreement the semis were set up as Dublin vs.
Leeds. Fortunately the Pookas second team lost their semi
while the Worlds team scraped a one point victory thus avoiding
the potential horror of seeing the irish Worlds squad
beaten by their own second team. The final was a hard fought
battle - Pookas pulled 5-2 ahead thanks to a few early mistakes
by the Janitors but once the Janitors settled down they quickly
managed to level the game and long points were traded back
and forth until the game was capped at 11-11. Janitors took
the point on the cap and though the Pookas pulled one back
the Leeds crew punched the winning point home to emerge
the victors.

With a shocking disregard for the tradition set by previous Dublin
mudwrestling tourneys it stayed dry the whole weekend except
for a couple of hail showers during the finals.

Man of the weekend had to be our very own Jamie 'Chops'
Crick who managed to break his nose while attempting to head-
butt an Abusive Fever player in the kneecaps in the first game
of the tourney. He spent the next two games in Beaumont Hospital,
returned for the last game of the day and then djed the party later
that night. He was last seen around 3 am clutching a bottle of vodka
and a large handrolled cigarette, vociferously demanding 'phat beats'.

UWE came back from a 20-1 defeat by Aberdeen to thrash all
comers mercilessly in a tequila snorting competition which
demonstrates a clear sense of the priorities underlying the
Dublin Open.

I'd like to thank all the teams who made the trip over (since I
was supposed to mail out all the invites and didn't) and
everyone who came to the party (since I was supposed to
arrange the venue. And didn't). It was a great weekend and
hopefully we'll see most of you again.
