Hi

Just some more news (and a slight correction) relating to this year's
OUTDOOR NATIONALS.

1. Teams that qualify from regionals
(thats top 5 in N&M and SE ; top 6 in SW)
will be required to pay up on the day (ie the Sunday of Regionals).
SE : cheque to Chris Hughes
SW : " " Wayne Retter
N&M : " " me.
I don't know exactly the amount at this moment (likely to be around 85 GBP).
I presume it is payable to "Layout Dreams" - but I will check.
NB BRING YOUR CHEQUE BOOKS.

2. A lot of people have asked if the exact format of the tourney is known now.
The answer is yes - I wasn't going to bore everyone with it - but it seems
people would like to know.

In each Division of 8 there are two pools of 4. With teams seeded 1-8, the
groups are:
A: 1,3,6,8.
B: 2,4,5,7.

Games are expected to be 90 mins + cap on the Saturday, and likewise
on Sunday EXCEPT for the top 4 in semis who will get full games.

Games are expected to start at 9am.

Top 8 will be play 2 consec. games (actually there is short break between
these games: ie 2nd game starts at 11am). Then get a good long break
with 3rd game starting at something like 2.30 - maybe 2 if its an overcast
day. This 3rd game will be the "QF-equivalent game" (ie 1v8, 2v7, etc...)
Thus the schedule is equivalent for evereyone in the 8.

Bottom 8 will be similar EXCEPT that they will play 1 game, then have their
long break, and then play 2 "back to back". Their "QF-equiv. game" will be
the one directly after the break.

Reasoning behind all this:
1. same for everyone (identical for those in closest direct competition).
2. staggering the breaks between top 8 and bottom 8 will alleviate strain
on venue-facilities and also mean that there is always some ultimate being
played.
3. Now you know - pass it on around your team. If anyone has any genuine
"complaints"/observations please let me know; and please do it asap...

3. This brings me to my slight correction. In my original posting, I listed
out the positions of each qualifying team depending on where they finish
at regionals. I got the top 8 right, but made a bit of a mistake with the
bottom 8 : sorry. (This is because of the juggling due to Lurkers/UTI thing
in the SE - which meant that the 8th place N&M team from last year was
ignored.) So taking that into account and using "a bit more common sense"
(which means I've now used up all my common sense for 1996) the bottom 8
should read:
9. NM4
10. SW3
11. SE4
12. SW4
13. SE5
14. SW5
15. NM5
16. SW6

So groups are
C: NM4, SE4, SW5, SW6
D: SW3, SW4, SE5, NM5

Alright? I guess I can stomach complaints about this now if you really
have any... it doesn't run EXACTLY to last year's results - but it has been
round and round my head many times.

Thats about all for now
(except for the message about indoor nationals that will follow in a moment!)

cheers

Simon Hill
