'Bin' (Robin?)

I can give you somewhat innaccurate figures from this years BUF subscription
forms:

>From the 51 out of 115 teams who bothered to fill in the form(!), we counted
974 men and 347 women. That gives around 2200 men and 800 women in total if
you extrapolate (dodgy).

**HOWEVER** I would take these numbers with a considerable pinch of salt
because:-

1. Many of the university teams reported how many *recruits* they got not
how many people actually play on a regular basis.

2. Many teams were putting down vague numbers (eg 30 men and 10 women) and,
amazingly, Catch 22 have 22 players (who'd a thought it?!)

3. I would think the teams who didn't fill in the form are generally less
well organised and therefore might not have as many players as the rest.

I would say that more realistic figures might be something like 1200 men and
400 women.

In general, its very hard to say exactly how many players there are (What
contitutes a player? Someone who attends one or more tournamnents? Someone
who joined a club?) Until such time as we have individual membership of a
national association we can't really answer your question accurately.

Is this for a research project or are you offering to do a proper census for
me? ;-)
