Just thought I'd get in my twopenny worth while the debate still
rages on.

Surely the whole edict of Ultimate is to do with the 'Spirit' of the
game. This whole debate stinks of hankerings towards
professionalism. If we get referees in, do we then professionalise
the sport, meaning that there will be little if any chance of Joe
Schmo competing with the very best in the world. Does Worlds
then have two seperate categories, pros and amateurs, and will
there then have to be pro-am tournies, where a pro team plays an
amateur team. I don't know how many of you are familiar with the
professionalisation of rugby, but that was totally pants, and has
ruined club rugby at grass roots level.

Look at the nonsense encountered on a day-to-day basis in football,
where certain players seem able to influence referees decisions,
and there is little if any fun to be seen. Is that the way that Ultimate
wants to go? I kow that I took it up because of the fun, but also
because it was refreshing to be able to play in a totally self-
governing sport. If we take that away, we take the essence of the
sport away. No longer will a sense of spirit be instilled in all the
players.

At the moment, the really big games, those played at Worlds and
the like, do not suffer from a lack of referee, but instead are
enhanced by it.

I think I should shut up now, before I make any bigger a fool of
myself. Please note that these thoughts are my own personal
thoughts and feelings, and do not in any way reflect the thoughts or
feelings in Shooting Stars (Dundee Uni Ultimate) or that of Scottish
Ultimate as a whole.
