Well then,

Hello Brit disc,

Just a quickish mail
following Bliss's sucesses in Copenhagen (team Tara,Laura, Hannah, Terri, Nicole,Lucy
and Claire P)where they won spirit as well as the tournament against Swedish opposition
Carnigie, last weekend saw the girls travel to Gothenburg for an expected rematch.

Just a little to let every one know about what happened in Gothenburg.
some bits are taken from a write up of Wayne Retter.

ranked in order of accomplishment,
 Bliss (Tara, Laura, Hannah, Terri, Nicole and Maria);
Druids (Adam, Jeff, Wayne, Dave W, Iain, Jamie and "Wrong" Jon) and
Hammerage (Ian and Nancy, Zaid, Simon Norris, Dave Eastman, A.N.Other)

Write up on Bliss
Bliss blitzed the opposition on the Saturday- running their opposition
(always of much greater numbers) ragged and generally getting things to work.

BLISS in pool of 4:
10:55 W 11-07 Bliss - Skogshyddan
This game felt like hard work in the beginning, with the Bliss team learning to play
indoors together. But once a lead was established we pulled away for a convincing win.

13:00 W 11-06 Bliss - Stovner
This was the only team we played that also only had 6 players. The game was relatively
straight forward.

15:20 W 11-07 Bliss - Espoo
In this game we really started to shine, we came out hard and fast in both D & O.
Espoo really didn't know how to stop us... unfortunately Maria sustained twisted knee,
and although she played the rest of the game it put her out for all but 4 points on
the Sunday.

BLISS in "quarters" semis and finals:
09:10 W ??-?? Bliss - Stockholm
11:05 W 13-12 Bliss - Carnegie
13:30 L 12-13 Bliss - Espoo

We played quarters, semi's and finals on the Sunday, mostly Iron Man.
The first game against the Stolkholm team is not really worth that much of a mention,
as the spirit was dubious.

The semi against Carnegie was hard fort, we knew that Carnegie are never going to give up
it was going to be a fight to the end. Everyone did something that little bit special in
this game...a lay out D by me in the zone, Terri fighting (and getting body checked a
number of times for the disc)but grabing the disc with confidence, Laura and Nicole s
throws were near perfect, and finally on the final point a diving catch in the zone by
Tara, to win in sudden death!

The final was hard, Espoo came out strong and we ran with them for a while,
but we were tired...and Espoo pulled away. When the score reached 11- 8 Espoo, we
seemed to find some energy from somewhere..(I don't know where)with a couple of
good hard D, bringing us back to 11-10.
Terri then stormed through on the first pass of the point taking Espoo by suprise
and macking the D close to our endzone, which was converted for a score.
11-11.
Again we get the D, and score.11-12 Bliss our first lead of the game, game to 13....
Unfortunatly we were not used to starting on O for the last part of the game.
Espoo brought the score back to 12-12.
Espoo finally won after eventually breaking our endzone - zone.

I would just like to say that I am a bad looser, but it did not feel like we
lost this game we played well, with a squad exactly half the size of Espoo.

As Wayne said" Their finals appearance and performance, whilst not entirely unexpected,
is deserving of that additional touch of respect."

Waynes comments:-
It appears to me that, especially in the women's divisions, there's a
definite change in the Scando supremacy leagues - Swedish teams seem to
be loosing their touch, and the Fins have not been hesitant in stepping
forward to fill those spaces. There also seems to be a level of shock
that a British team (unruly, undisciplined, untrained - and uninhibited)
can waltz in and wreak havoc.

Druids

Sorry, not so much information.
Druids - Carnegie
As a spectator of this game I would like to say, why oh why did you go 8-1 down!!,
the come back was fantastic...a pleasure to watch...with a final score of 11-13 but
well played!
Since Carnengie only beat Liquidisc by 2 points in the final, Druid should feel
vindicated that had they reached the final it would have been a close fort thing.
Unfortuantly the pool games put an end this specualtion being founded.

Druids Pancake - Comfortably
Again as Wayne put" Hooray (and silent prayers of thanks?!)
Maybe we've sorted our lives out. It's a pleasant feeling to end the day
on a cheerful note and we're less likely to get really, badly, horribly,
MORBIDLY Drunk."

A big thankyou to the Druids for all their support, I know you kept me going in the final.
Thanks again to all who supported us

A recovering slowly
Hannah (Bliss)
