I've got to disagree with Tim on this one.

Qualification for the next World clubs is based on performance at Nationals this year. You can't expect a team to get together just before Nationals and then finish in the top two.

Playing in a squad of 18 is very different from playing in a squad of 9 in terms of attitude, fitness, etc. Killing yourself for a couple of points is so different to pacing yourself for 90 minutes without a sub.

I think the tour has done well at encouraging geographical teams. Look at the top 8 now compared to 3 years ago? How many 'telephone' teams now exist in the top 12? You might just count Night Fever and Druids as being telephone teams, but even they have monthly training sessions (or was I mis-informed?)

The seeding for tours has always tried to take into account teams that cannot make all tour tournaments. Weighted averages, expected results from missed tournaments, drop worst / missing result and still qualify for Nationals, it's all there.

Look at how competitive it is now at the top of British Ultimate. Compare that to when Hombres / Shotgun dominated. UTI know that if they play badly, they could well lose in the semis.

>Where does a student team go

Why can't they play in the tour? Many student teams play just a couple of tour tournaments, and get seeded according to where they are expected to finish, and not on previous / non-existent results.

Talk to Chris Hughes about this one. Personally, I wouldn't go near that mine-field. It's up there with that American tournament that had 90+ teams and you just found a team you wanted to play against, find a free pitch, and off you go. Hand all results in, study them for a while, then join everyone else having a beer and forget about who won.
