I want to be able to play on Monday night, after work...

When I used to do what you suggested, just _walking_ on Monday was quite
often not a serious consideration...

Nope. That's team discipline for you. Just like when you rest someone
for a game that just happens to be against their favourite opposition...

um, yeah, well...

The larger team (OK, up to a point, where health and ability kicks in)
that we take to WUCC, the more likely we all are to survive the event,
and the more able we are to have a training session, or go to a
tournament quite shortly after we get back...

Some of the US clubs use WUCC as a selection event for squad that they
want to take to US Nationals... so their view may differ to ours.
