As I have previously mentioned, the Tour is elitest.
If you want to be a part of that "elite", you don't miss any events!

No, No, and NO!!! No specific teams were responsible for the change in
the individual formats of any events, or of the Tour as a whole.

There is (always has been) a section in the rules about how "missing" or
"new" teams are added/seeded... if you've never been heard of, you'll
possibly get a lower seeding than you deserve.

Also, if you miss an event, your previous finishing position will be
taken into account when you come back...

Too long and complex to go into on Britdisc, but this wouldn't really
work - especially as a pre-cursor to pool play!
If you draw your first matches at random, teams get stung unless you
follow the "Swiss" format all weekend,
If you try seeding your teams, why bother with this stage? - you're
going into pools anyway, and you may end up with someone in the wrong
pool!

Having said that, could be an interesting format to run as an experiment
outside of the Tour (Ideal for hat tournaments, I'd imagine)
