Afternoon

Just have to respond to one point in Catch's letter. I can't speak for the other teams in our pool (Chevy and Druids), but UTI did not 'decide to take the walkover'.

We were also deeply unhappy about playing on those fields (note to Americans: if you still don't know the difference between a pitch and a field go to Towcester), and there was even talk of moving our entire pool to another venue. Catch, our first opponents, found another pitch nearby and asked us if we wanted to come up to their pitch to play. But by this time the tournament was already behind schedule, and to have gone to play them there at that time would have meant two very tough games virtually back-to-back.

As Catch said it's important to play at 100%, and that includes a proper warm up, warm down and break between games. Given that we had a small squad (9 men), and a relatively large chance of injury, we decided that we weren't prepared to accept this unfair penalty and told Catch that we would play our other two games as scheduled before making any decision (we actually asked both Chevy & Druids if they wanted to bring forward our games).

As things worked out there was meeting of Catch, the U8 committe etc. in the afternoon which decided that they'd withdraw from Tour II and we were never called upon to make that decision.

For the record I quite understand why Catch withdrew (or whatever they did), and the number of crocked ankles on Saturday suggests that they weren't being too wussy. However we stand by our decision not to play the game at that time.
