Hi Paul,

I was in total agreement with you until you got to the idea of penalising
TDs. I don't think any TD would organise an event if they thought they were
likely to suffer the verbal onslaught and humiliation that Nancy has
received. I think that is penalty enough for the cock up AND that it will
ensure the same type of error does not occur again. Also, having organised
the British Open for five years, I would ask you to consider this...

I had a five year legal contract with the Saffrons and every year every
aspect of the minutiae of that contract was gone over again and again AND
further reiterated AND further agreed in writing. To infer that it is just a
matter of a phone call is naivety itself. Every single year the Saffrons
changed some aspect or did not deliver something which was agreed in
writing, usually without warning. (I don't know how extensive your knowledge
of the law is but if it's better than mine, which wouldn't be difficult,
please feel free to correct me) I really felt it was tantamount to
impossible for me to spend further time and/or risk vast sums of money,
taking the Saffrons to court. SO, if the BUF were to undertake to punish
TDs, they would have to support those TDs financially (as a minimum) when
matters become litigious.

One of the main reasons that I'm not holding the open this year is that I
was so embarrassed when bars closed earlier than agreed, Parties simply
didn't happen, bar-b-qs didn't happen, the correct no of pitches was not
available, the date was changed, additional charges were levied on the
players, showers were not available, car parking and camping were not
clearly sign posted and fenced off, no PA system was available, no secure
area was available for me.... I could go on!!!...

Personally, I can assure you that anyone at the BUF attempting to penalise
me for this would be lucky to get away with just an earbashing! in fact
they'd have to take ME to court to get the cash.

Please consider this.

Cheers
Nolan
