I know that the idea of the Tour is to create "true
seeding" but there have ALWAYS been pools of death:
1997 Nationals, Seeds 1-8 Pool was the result of the
tour. The pools were
Pool A: Shotgun, Catch 22, Violently Happy, Red
Pool B: Chevron AF, Druids, Stan, Oxford (?)

Shotgun and Catch came 1st and 2nd, VH and Red came 5th
and 6th. This means that EVERY match between Pool A
and Pool B was won by Pool A. We (as VH) never got
a shot at Druids or Chevron. Would we have won? Who
knows. Was Pool A a "pool of death"? Quite possibly.
Do we care? Not really; that was the format, we lived
by it. We won the games we won, we lost the other games,
we drank beer, we had a good time(*)

Pools of death WILL occur. People who get completely
hung up on coming 5th or 4th in a tournament (even if
it is Nationals) need to remember that the reason
you play this game.... is to PLAY THE GAME!

If you want to get hung up on stats, go and play Fantasy
Football.

Just my thoughts, from someone who just runs (slowly),
catches (occasionally) and throws (poorly) but has fun
doing it.

Batman
(ex VH and others)

(*) We also had a magnificent scoring system in our semi-
final against Stan, but that is another story.
