Si (and everyone else who gets this - some of you probably twice)

After a long considered discussion within the u8c, the following was proposed to the BUF, and accepted by the executive committee.

It was made clear by the results of Catch at the tour events, and by the level of feeling within the committees, and on britdisc, that it was unreasonable to penalise Catch 22 for the principled stand that they made at T2. The majority of people felt that Catch should be provided the chance to enter Nationals at a level that befitted them.

However, it was also felt that any alteration to the situation for Nationals which would penalise any other team from being given the chance to perform at the level which they deserved would also be unreasonable. Therefore the following compromise has been proposed;

That for Nationals qualification only, Catch 22 are awarded a fourth result equal to the average points from the other three tour results that Catch achieve. There are advantages, and disadvantages to this system, however it was felt to be the simplest, and most effective method. Assuming a usual performance from Catch at T4 in Leeds, this will place Catch somewhere in the top four seeding positions.

Also, so that the team that finishes 8th in the tour is not penalised by being relegated to 9th seeds at Nationals, and down to division 2, Nationals will now include a 5th - 12th knockout (as per the tour events) allowing the team that has been demoted a chance to achieve 5th place - a reasonable target for them to aim for. The 13th to 16th teams at nationals will play a 4 team pool on Sunday.

Thus qualification for Nationals remains the same - all team must finish in the top 16 of the tour to qualify (although unrostered teams need to check the tour rules on unrostered teams qualifying), since Catch, placed 11th are already into Nationals. All teams finishing below Catch in the tour will be seeded as they finish, and all teams finishing above Catch in the tour may be moved down a position to accommodate Catch after addition of the fourth set of points. Teams seeded below 8th will not be able to win Nationals, and teams seeded above 9th will not be able to finish below 12th.

This decision will be implemented irrelevant of whether Catch 22 manage to qualify in the top 8 for Nationals in their own right after the T4 results. Similarly any added points will not contribute to the final placing of Catch 22 in the tour.

Hope this solution is to everyone's satisfaction.

PS - although Si already knows this: someone asked "Is Wayne the rest of the co?" No - the u8c consists of Andy Cotgrieve (playing for Chevron), Dora Kemp (Strange Blue), Wayne Retter (Druids), and Andy 'Norm' Tucker (UTI).
The BUF executive committee who accepted the proposal was Laura Pearce (Director), Ben Ravillious (Secretary), Ian Stebbing (treasurer).
