As Rich has already posted the results I won't go into that again but will
try to remember some of the weekends highlights. The tournament started
well on Saturday morning with Fingers6 and Purple Jedi both no-shows leaving
Rich and Martin with the headache of rewriting the schedule for 10 teams
(ever tried this?). The teams were divided into 2 groups of 5 for the
Saturday, Chevron seeded top in Group 1 and Blue Arse Flies seeded top in
Group 2. Blue Arse Flies quickly established themselves as the team to beat
by winning their games AND managing to pick up for Nuns (something they did
all weekend, even in the game before the final!) Chevron got off to a good
start, beating Rejects and The Snobs quite convincingly and the other team
to show promise were Flying Lims, a new team from Northern Ireland including
two old Sneeeky's (no offence Barry!) At this stage SFA had divided
themselves (all 10 of them!) into two teams The Snobs and The Toffs and were
showing great spirit playing in dinner jackets and dresses (think about it!)
and shouting "Ra Ra Ra we're going to smash the Oiks!", results for them
were mixed, possibly playing in full dress attire had something to do with
it!! Chevron decided to go and watch the rugby in the local pub and, after
a few pints and a pool disaster for Kenny (something to do with "beaten by a
girl") we emulated our esteemed pool player by losing to Blue Nuns in a
closely fought game. Blue Arse flies were meanwhile carrying on to an
unbeaten record on Saturday and Chevron beat Flying Lims in the last game to
finish top of Group 1. Saturday night and most of the teams descended in
party atmosphere on an unsuspecting Wolverhampton, ending the night at
Wolverhampton Civic Hall (2 dancefloors and relatively cheap beer - a deadly
mix!).

Sunday dawned in the impressive Molineux Centre with the realisation that a
hungover Chevron had to play a spritely looking Blue Arse Flies (aptly
named!), Martin and Harry G, in a drunken stupor, had devised a system where
the top three teams from group 1 played the top three from group 2 - with
the points from yesterday still counting. The game against Blue Arse
couldn't have started worse - Chevron being 4-0 down in the first 5 minutes
but rallying to lead 6-4 before finally losing 7-6, someone who shall remain
nameless having THREE chances to tie the game in the last point (Oh, OK it
was me!). The Toffs meanwhile saw off Flying Lims and Blue Nuns to set up a
tense "semi final" with Chevron. In the Spoon section my old team Hot Stamp
Rejects (great to see them back) were playing some neat Ultimate and Nads
were performing well with some promising youngsters (and I mean young!).
Chevron saw off The Toffs and prepared for an unbeaten BAF, Nads beat HSR
in a closely fought Spoon Final and Blue Nuns triumphed over Mad Kows in the
Plate.
The final was expected to be a close affair and that proved to be the case
as Chevron and BAF traded points throughout the 25 minute game and entered
the cap level on scores at 10-10, Chevron scored first but BAF rallied and
had the disc on the endzone line at 11-11, a layout in the endzone was
narrowly missed and Chevron worked (oh alright, hammered) the disk to the
opposite zone (great take by Harry), called a timeout and scored against
some zone marking. Both teams were knackered after a well spirited and
exciting final (from a Chevron point of view - watch out for BAF in
Edinburgh!!).

If anybody has managed to get this far through this mammoth report, let me
assure you I have not written this all at once and it only remains for me to
thank Martin Lucy and Rich Parkes for an excellent tournament - oh and
Sneeeky's and Flying Lims won a joint spirit prize.

See you in Edinburgh

Mark
Chevron.
