Doughboy and several of the London-based UTI players have decided to create a new club, based in South London, to challenge for European Club honours next year and use that as a springboard for World Clubs in 2002. In the interests of promoting geo Ultimate and to help open up the London scene in general we're inviting any London players who would like to be involved to come down, train with us and try out for the team at our weekly Sunday practices. We don't mind what team you're currently playing on and have even been joined at practice by several purple scum (Druids to those of you too young to know). We play at 1pm on Clapham Common, right by Eagle Pond in front of Clapham South tube station (see http://www.kbw.co.uk/shotgun/Graphics/Clapham.gif for map), and yes - we play outdoors pretty much whatever the weather! We're aiming to build a club with sufficient players to send two teams to the British Ultim-8 Tour next year, and to promote real competition for places in the squad we'll send to compete abroad. We believe that by building a large club like this we can continue to provide one of the highest quality regular practices in the country, while at the same time giving players who have in the past not been involved the chance to gain invaluable experience. We haven't yet decided how to limit numbers if we get overwhelmed, but we'll either establish a cut-off period after which we'll choose a squad, or we'll allow players a couple of practices to find their feet after which we'll let them know what we think their chances are. We play hard every practice, run drills every practice and expect players who make it to commit fully to our outdoor timetable over the winter and spring months. So, if you're interested - start showing up on Sundays, or email me at this address (roger.thomson@oyster.co.uk) for more information, especially if you'd like to come but have a particular reason for not being able to make Sundays just yet. Given that we already have several female players at practice and the team contains several KUPA players, we have considered trying to make the club a co-ed club and would be interested to hear the views of any female players and co-ed players alike. Anyway, INDOORS SUCKS! l8rs Pieboy on behalf of the self appointed junta: Euroboy (Guy Bowles), ex-UTI Pops (Aram Flores), Dough Carthorse (Alex Bowers), ex-UTI Sky (Jonathan Sinclair), Dough Miss Clapham (Mark Perryman), ex-UTI Pieboy (Roger Thomson), Dough and numerous other block-rocking South London Ultimate players (no Si Hill that description definitely doesn't include you, but even you're welcome too when you're better). __________________ Roger Thomson Consultant Oyster Partners t.
