Following on from our December announcement about the up-coming 25th
Anniversary of the Warwick Bears Frisbee Club, here is the latest news.

The '25th Anniversary Organising Group' (six strong at present, but
expected to grow with your help) have put together a web database of as
many Old Bears as we can brainstorm. Those on this list will soon be
receiving the first mailshot to inform them of plans, and seek their help,
support and commitment for the celebration event. You can check out if you
are already on this list by visiting the Old Bears website at:

	http://oldbears.ranulf.net/

There will soon be many more facilities on this website, but even now you
can update your contact details and browse through the list of fellow Old
Bears - maybe you can remember some that we have missed?!

Below is a preview of the letter which will go into the post over the next
few days [NB The address used will be the one on record with the WGA /
Alumni Office, which may or may not be completely up-to-date, also the WGA
cannot disclose all the addresses it holds, so it would help us a lot if
you let us have your current contact details (by post, e-mail or via the
website)].

Cheers

Sam Neilson [Bears 1981-1984]

WARWICK UNIVERSITY FRISBEE CLUB - 25th ANNIVERSARY

13 Ashfield Road,
Kenilworth,
Warwickshire,
CV8 2BE

31st January 2001

Dear Old Bear,

The Warwick University Frisbee Club will be 25 years old on 27th October
2001. Time for a party, I think.

Yes, the club has been in existence continuously since Wednesday 27th
October 1976, when fifteen people assembled in the ground floor of Rootes
(a completely different place then to the upmarket conference reception of
today) before trekking over to the "Health Centre Field" (now buried under
the Jack Martin residences) to be introduced to the game of Ultimate
Frisbee. This unbroken history is quite amazing in the context of student
societies outside of the mainstream sports and is also unusual in UK
ultimate. In fact Warwick is probably one of the two or three
longest-established ultimate clubs in the world. Something about the
combination of the game and the place seems to have ensured that each new
generation of students has carried the club forwards and had a significant
impact on the development of the sport in the UK.

An anniversary well worth celebrating, then. If players from each of those
generations come back for the celebrations it will be an amazing event, and
a huge one. Plans are taking shape for a dinner and a mini-tournament,
events for children and partners, commemorative videos and who knows what
else (zimmer frame races for the oldies, probably). Will you be there? As
it happens, 27th October 2001 will be a Saturday, so that is the likely
date for the event. Please return the form on the next page as soon as
possible, to confirm that you are interested in attending and also to let
us know if you can help in any way. Don't forget to let us have as many
names and addresses as you can dig out; with the help of the WGA we hope to
contact everyone who has been active in the club over the last 25 years.

As I wrote 15 years ago, when we organised the 10th Anniversary dinner:
This should be the biggest celebration the club has seen - be there!

First President of the Frisbee Club
