Re Disc Golf on BUF Diary:

I can turn off their pacemakers all too easily if there is enough of a
majority in favour of doing this! As a reneral rule it is better to have
multiple optional Internet services rather than lumping things together.
Remember Britdisc slitting off from Eurodisc, Student-Ultimate egroup
splitting from Britdisc, etc? Provided people have the option to have both
(which they would even if two entirely separate diary systems existed) then
there shouldn't be a problem.

This somewhat revives a long-running debate about whether disc sports should
be run separately or bundled into a bigger 'product'. I notice that as
ultimate players have become more serious about what they do the general
opinion seems to have drifted towards separation. I think the same is
generally true of disc golf players. You might find there are just as many
ultimate players who would be interested in football results but that
doesn't mean they have to be on the same diary.

I think it was Toby Green who first argued against 'disc sports' as an
entity on the basis that it presented a confusing image to newcomers. FWIW,
I am generally of this opinion myself though there are certain places where
we can benefit from working together (putting 'disc sports' leaflets in
discs sold in shops was always a good idea and maybe some day soon we'll
have the manpower to actually make it happen).

Try convincing WFDF that dealing with the sports separately is a good idea
and you will see just how backwards we really are. Many foreign 'flying disc
associations' do nothing other than ultimate which surely damages the other
disc sports more than anything else. It seems Britain and Switzerland are
alone in Europe as countries who have totally independent (and flourishing?)
organisations for each sport. I have been arguing that this is in fact
healthy but there hasn't been a change in personnel at WFDF in about ten
years as far as I can see so we're still running on some very old ideas.

Convince me that the prospect of more golf events in the diary is abhorent
to the majority of players and maybe we'll do something about it. Come to
think of it, 'Britdisc' is bit old hat....

Ben
