All,

Thanks for the support and suggestions - keep them coming.

Some quick clarifications:-

1. I'm afraid membership will not make the tour/nationals free. However the
abolition of tournament tax should represent a saving of around 5 to 10 quid
each per year. For your extra money you will get Newsletter, proper
website, ISP, Insurance, a vote, better run organisation, etc. Is it worth
it? You decide.

2. Ideally student competition would be exempt from the requirement to be
members. However if that meant that there was an exodus of students from the
big events then we would have a problem (both for particpation and for
funding.) Give it a year or two and it won't matter anyway as there will be
enough non-students to support it on their own. But we really do need the
'serious' students to join if we're to make it happen at this price this
year.

3. Under 16s will not be able to have individual membership. The laws about
keeping their details on file are way too scary. Their teachers/youth
leaders would be encouraged (and maybe subsidised) to join and they would
also continue to have the Association Youth Co-ordinator to look after their
interests. Perhaps they could elect the co-ordinator?

4. The Provisional Membership fee is really aimed at foreign guest players
and also muppets who don't join in time for the tournament. Novice players
trying out the game at an indoor regional aren't going to be charged £10
though we would like them to register so that we can keep in contact.

5. A Web-based version of the newsletter is undoubtedly a good idea. It
would provide us with regular content to make our website look fresh. Until
such time as Western society becomes truly paperless I think a printed copy
is also needed. It would be particularly useful as a publicity tool. It
might be possible to charge a lower membership fee to those who elect to
receive the newsletter electronically but actually the main cost of the
newsletter is in the production not the printing and posting. Not a big
issue either way unless you're a tree.

6. In my key recommendations in the 'Getting Things Started' section I
neglected to mention the need for a further General Meeting to elect new
board members. It would seem sensible to do this before employing the paid
staff.

Cheers
