Hi

So you missed the closing date for Hitchin?

Well there are still spaces. But there is a complication. Dora
is going (has gone) to Rimini for a few days which means that we can
no longer confirm your entry until next Wednesday.

You might want to get in touch with me to let me know that you have
sent the moeny etc to Dora, but I can't tell you if you have got in
or not because I don't know who else has done that.

Teams I DO know about are (in rough order of paying deposit)

Catch
Strange Blue
Jedi
Druids
Village
Gun
Bliss
Squawks
Stan
1st Touch
Phat'Eds I
Sneeeky's
Headrush
Red Jesters
Chevron
Oxford Ultimate
Superfly

And I understand that details/money have been sent by
Violently Happy
Hurricane
so they will also make it!

I have also heard from one or two other teams that they are about
to put their money in the post - so I presume they too will not have any
trouble getting one of the spaces.

So if your team wants to be in, then send the money (and tell me that you
have) - but we cannot now confirm your place until Wednesday (when we will
hopefully be confirming many other tournament details). Before you say
"this isn't fair" remember that you have already missed the closing date,
and that at least 15 teams didn't!

I will be around all Easter w/e at home 0113 289 0971 - but also
nipping in to do some work from time to time - so I will also be reading
email.

I was interested to read Rob's comment about calls etc.
I remember discussing this point with a couple of the Strollers about a year
ago. Now obviously these guys have been playing for quite a while. Their
point was that it appeared to them that they could visibly detect a movement
in the focus of where spirit was being displayed.

IE - loads of really funny post-game calls taking precedence over a
clear, fair, thoughtful SPIRITED approach to play ON THE PITCH by people
who know the rules.

I am not slagging people's spirit here - but agreeing with a couple of
"emminent" people who have commented about this and related topics.
(Re-read Rafi's bit in one of the Ultimatum's recently. Its worth thinking
about. Also Scott made a good point about standing firm over something in
the face of celebrations. Why not ask Andy C. from Chevron just how hard
this is. The recent argument sparked by our team taking
dropped pulls is another good illustration of how spirit is seen differently
by different teams.)

I think Red did what they did this w/e partly to spark off some conversation
along these lines. Good for them. We (I was playing with Stan) played
them this w/e. The game hinged on an endzone call where one of their
players caught the disc touching the line. Their spirit was excellent from
my point of view. And after the game they made it very clear that they
wanted their spirit ON THE PITCH to be recognised not their ability to make
am amusing song up (sorry about the split infinitive).

AND FINALLY... ever beaten a team in an important, really close game and
then subjected them to a really funny call that takes 5 minutes?
Do you think that was enjoyable after they'd just been knocked out of
Nationals? Sometimes a short call, or even no-call might just be the
best way to respect your opponents. (NB - please do NOT think
I am saying that teams shouldn't circle-up after the game - I think that
is a great tradition.)

And really finally - if you haven't seen Mythago's call (Rob is from
Mythago for anyone who doesn't know) - check it out. Its one of the best
I've ever seen.
