At the least all I was asking was whether there was a TV near the pitches
and/or any flexibility with the schedule. Nancy? Anyone? Please say there's
a stunning bar, with draft Stella, overlooking the pitches, with a 10' by 8'
projector screen showing the game. Or some skaggy midlands pub half a mile
away with one 12" TV and all the locals already there. Anything will do. I
was bringing it up on behalf of other players as much as anything since
we're possibly going to be playing Clapham1 vs Clapham2 on Saturday
afternoon thanks to the rigged seedings we accepted as punishment for
dropping a team at Leeds.....

Please Nancy, save us - England will definitely never win without our
support,
Roger

!!!!
If you have no sense of humour or don't care about football please DO NOT
READ ANY FURTHER unless you're Andy Cotgreave. Please keep any responses
strictly intra-combatant and do not send them to Britdisc.

DISCLAIMER: ON NO ACCOUNT SHOULD THE VIEWS IN THIS MAIL BE TAKEN AS
REPRESENTATIVE OF CLAPHAM ULTIMATE TEAM, IT'S PLAYERS OR MANAGEMENT (OH
SORRY, EXCEPT RV, WHO SAID - "HURT HIM M8, WE MUST SEE THE GAME"). NOR
SHOULD THEY BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. UNLESS OF COURSE
YOU'RE EXACTLY THE KIND OF INTOLERANT SOD ALL THE BARBED COMMENTS ARE AIMED
AT - IN WHICH CASE, err, EAT MY SHORTS!

felixsh from Brighton - you're not still reading are you? Or trying to. How
do my shorts taste?

>Er, yeah, but this is the OPEN NATIONALS you're talking about.
Er, yeah Mr Sarcastic - open nationals FRISBEE. In case you hadn't noticed a
significantly larger number of people get rather more excited about that
other bizarre sport just the odd few people play with a round ball. YOU may
not care, but I was raising it on behalf of those of us for whom, frankly,
it's a religion. Mr Cotgreave meet Mr Perspective: <Mr Cotgreave>Hello Mr
Perspective I'm an ultimate frisbee player. <Mr Perspective, rolling about
on the floor laughing>What the ***k is that then?

>The football result will be the same whether you see the England match or
not.
Any football fan will tell you categorically that that is not true. It can't
be. Don't say that. Please. We know it's not true anyway, Schrodinger would
assert that the result will not be the same: England will in fact have won,
lost and drawn until we know the result - and I don't want England to lose
to a country that's lost it's marbles thanks, not even quantum physically.

And since the tone of your response was needlessly and disproportionately,
er, inconsiderate and condescending (Kettle Cotgreave meet Pot Thomson):
>If you don't have the focus to play Ultimate that weekend maybe you should
stay at home. :-)
Sorry, I thought you said I won't have TO focus to play Ultimate......will
you be marking me if we play then? ;-)

right - pub time. now.

Er, yeah, but this is the OPEN NATIONALS you're talking about. Which is a
higher priority for you? Playing hard ultimate, reaching the top of YOUR OWN
sport, of watching other people reach the top of theirs?

There may be a "not inconsiderable number" of footie fans, but there's also
a considerable number of Ultimate fans who would rather sweat it out for
their own team on the day, and not have the event they have worked all
summer to qualify for hijacked for 90minutes.

The football result will be the same whether you see the England match or
not. If you don't have the focus to play Ultimate that weekend maybe you
should stay at home. :-)

06 OCTOBER 2001 (2 DAYS) - BUF OPEN NATIONALS Location: Daventry - [Outdoor
Ultimate]

Sat Oct 06 2001 Germany v Finland 15:00 England v Greece 15:00

Is there anything we can do? A good chunk of the early rounds will be over
very quickly, so could the whole day be planned to be over by 3pm? Can we
start early? Is there a bar with a big TV by the pitches?

For the not inconsiderable number of players who are footie fans this is
probably quite an issue as these matches are now the deciders for England's
World Cup qualification....

Living in hope,
Clapham's Silver Bear

Open Nationals costs have been confirmed, so you can start sending money!

Cheques to Nancy Stebbing for £135 (which includes BUF tax). Send them to

10 Buckingham Road
Brackley
Northants NN13 7HH

Deadline is September 20, no exceptions. Please include a contact name with
both email and snail mail addresses so we can contact you and send maps and
thingies.

The tournament is open to the top 32 teams in the country, as determined by
the Ultim8 Tour results. If you didn't play in the Tour and want to come
anyway, send a cheque now which we'll hold, and then allocate any spaces
left over to you.

In case you missed them the first time, below are location and accomodation
details. Maps and directions will follow as soon as we get a decent set.

OPEN NATIONALS- OCTOBER 6-7 DAVENTRY SPORTS GROUNDS, DAVENTRY

The Open Nationals are confirmed at Daventry for the above dates. Daventry
is between Junctions 16-17 of the M1, and about 16 miles north of Banbury
(site of Tour 2). More directions, maps, and web resources regarding
location will follow. Please be advised- you will need some sort of private
transport. As this is a last minute arrangement, the site is NOT near a
train station (closest are Banbury and Northampton), and accomodation is
off-site. Please accept my apologies- this is the best we (the BUF) can do
for now.

The tournament is open to the top 32 teams initially. (Chris Hughes is
handling the format, so please send any inquiries about it to him.)
However, in the event that some of those teams do not attend, the remaining
spots will be passed down the rankings until the tournament is filled. It
is entirely possible (but maybe not likely) that teams who have not played
in the Tour at all could be offered a spot. If you want to come- send a
cheque by the deadline and see what happens. (Obviously, cheques will be
returned if space is not offered).

At this time, it is expected that the BUF AGM will be held on Saturday
night. Therefore, there is no official party planned. However, the bar at
the hotel accomodation will be open to all players. See below for details.

ACCOMMODATION

Camping is available for no cost at a local farm, Meadows Farm. The farm
is 2 miles from the pitches, but it is not a journey that should be
attempted on foot. The camping will be BASIC. This means port-a-loos, two
sinks in the garage (that DO have hot water) and that's it. Camping is
available both Friday and Saturday nights. If it's not raining, it's a
really pleasant site. You ARE permitted to bring cooking supplies/
barbecues, whatever. Meadows Farm is part of a local B&B association. You
can check out the location and other info at www.northantsfarmholidays.co.uk
<http://www.northantsfarmholidays.co.uk>

As well as Meadows Farm, there are other farm B&Bs nearby see the above site
for more info. (As well as campers, Meadows Farm will take B&B bookings.)
FYI, Drayton Lodge (one of the B&Bs on the web site) is almost directly
across the street from the pitches.

Staverton Park Conference centre is offering a special room rate for the
tournament. It is located one mile from the pitches. Rooms are available
for Friday and Saturday nights. Rooms are £50- single or double occupancy.
This rate includes full English breakfast, ensuite rooms, fully equiped
rooms (tea&coffee, hairdryer, ironing board, radio, TV, etc.) use of the
restaurant for dinner (at an additional cost) and use of the leisure club
(which has a swimming pool and sauna). The centre also has a bar. And for
those of you with more money than sense, Staverton has a golf course; tee
times are available. Check out the facilities at
www.poolatstavertonpark.co.uk <http://www.poolatstavertonpark.co.uk>
Rooms are on a first-come first serve basis. Call 01327 302 000 to book,
and ask for the frisbee rate. You'll need a credit card for a deposit.

OTHER INFO

There will be on-site food both Satruday and Sunday. I am negotiating to
keep costs down.

Entry deadline is September 20.

Any questions? Contact me on this email address or on 01280 701 715.
