Milk,

I totally agree with the sentiment, but there is more to it than that. We
need to have an overview (which is were the board would come in), by this I
mean a longer term development plan for the issues like encouraging more
women to play. One of the roles of the board would be to encourage more
people to get involved by making their job easier and clearer, and ensuring
that when people "get off there arses" their effort is fully supported and
really makes a difference nationally.

I believe that this is the most exciting possibility of the new
association - the chance to really develop every aspect of Ultimate (medical
cover and understanding, more women's and co-ed, better tournaments for all
divisions, introducing ultimate to new areas, junior development, coaching -
the list is near endless) without neglecting anything and with a long term
view.

Leanne asked about women's ultimate:
- to keep more women playing ultimate we need to continue to raise the
profile of when women play, the success of the mixed tour has started this
process - but Leanne is right more, better, higher profile mixed events
(tour, students, junior) would help. Women's ultimate should be given a
higher profile too.

Paul asked about medical cover:
- like Ben I firmly believe that national tournaments and teams should have
the best level of medical cover we can arrange, and therefore should have a
required minimum level of cover. Although this may not be possible for more
local events; UK Ultimate would have to provide guidelines and advice.
- Drugs is not an issue from which UK Ultimate should shy away. This is of
particular relevance to juniors and covers all types of drugs (recreational
and alcohol included ;). I would like to see the board produce "recommended
codes of conduct" for tournament directors and (especially) junior team
organisers.
- I also believe that we should be encouraging team captains and coaches to
have an understanding of Ultimate injury prevention and recovery. The
yellow book is by far the best Ultimate specific example of this I have seen
(it is very highly rated in Australia too!) We have several doctors in the
house - we should use that resource.

Thanks for reading all the way!

Barry

PS Vote for me ;)
