Dear all

In response to recent queries on Britdisc I thought I should send out a few
notes on my approach to the role of treasurer so that you can decide whether
to vote for me or for a re-election.

My general view is that the treasurer is not the person who decides how the
money is spent but is there to ensure that the finances are controlled and
that financial information is made available to the members as transparently
as possible.

Key concerns of mine are as follows:

That we can keep the membership fee as low as possible and that members
perceive that they receive value for money.

That the members have sufficient opportunity to express their wishes as to
how income will be spent. To meet this I would like to carry out a
questionnaire (hopefully online) in order that some good quality feedback
can be received on how we want to spend our money.

That we can provide some level of insurance cover but that in doing this we
don't open the association to any claims from members or third parties. I
would like some more advice in this area but I imagine at a minimum that all
members will need to sign some kind of waiver.

That we can minimise admin costs in the area of collecting membership fees
and communicating with members

If you want to discuss any issues in more depth with me then you can mail me
directly on wdavey@ingenta.com
