I'd also like to chip in and thank Lyndsay and those who helped
organise the Edinburgh Beginners. It was an amazing experience, a stunning
venue (we had pretty much the whole of meadowbank for two days, give or take
a hall), some teams had 12 or so beginners playing. The old rules were still
in play (one experienced player per side, who could not score and had to
wear a silly hat) and seemed to work well.

The hat thing was a legacy of Ben Rainbow (for those of you who can
remember), who turned up with his new team Fingers 6 (later to become
Chevvy, how 'bout that..) at the first beginners and the most outrageous
Jamiroquai- type hat I've ever seen. It kinda went on from there..

The party was awesome - exactly what a good party should be.

The final was electric - just as crispy said. I cannot remember any
final, either watching or playing, when the crowd has broken into "we will
rock you" complete with the stamp-stamp-clap. It was quite something, and I
know the Ow! guys really took something from it (in fact I was speaking with
one of the Ow beginners before the final, asking him how he felt and he said
" I'm scared s***less" (bless 'im), after it he was like "I feel really
really good". He's hooked.)

The other amazing this was the standard of beginners coming through.
There were quite a few teams there with tremedous new talent - Purple Haze
(a few future GB players here methinks - congrats on doing the 'double'
guys), Jedi, St Andrews (including a beginner who pulled out one of the best
layout D's I've seen indoors - fully horizontal at chest height!!), Boogie
Knights (from Liverpool Uni), Slipdisc (?). Looking at the standard here I
think that if the Uni guys can keep that level of interest, it's going the
be a brilliant year for student ultimate. Which will have a knock on effect
for the rest of us in about 3 years time.

So to Lyndsay and all those who helped, a great big thank you from
me, from the Ow! players and on behalf of everyone who road tripped and had
an absolute blast!. As a player it was one of the smoothest- run tournaments
and an absolute joy to participate in. Lyndsay, I know you worked your socks
off for this, thank you and congratulations. You can look back in the
knowledge that 350 people had an absolute blast thanks to you, and that some
of them will continue playing Ultimate because of what you accomplished.

Beginners)
