Nationals should be moved to earlier in the year. If nobody defends its
current position, shouldn't we just move it?

Wigsy's right - we all hate playing in the ridiculous conditions we often
get at Nationals. Which seems wrong given that this is the 'Open' Nationals
and the most important single event to the majority of the UK Ultimate
community. Si is right that it's a great way to end the season and he draws
a good parallel between Nationals and the FA Cup, but I'm sure even the FA
wouldn't arrange the FA Cup Final when they thought there was a good chance
the weather would be atrocious.

Having it at least another one, maybe two weeks earlier would increase the
chances of good weather. Would it not make sense to either swap it with an
event which, though great fun I'm sure, is of considerably less importance
to the majority of players (the Co-ed Nationals)? Or to move them both
forward and bump the British Open from the calendar (surely an event without
overwhelming portfolio if there ever was one)? Or just squeeze them up
tighter so that Nationals is the weekend after Co-ed; those playing at both
are obviously psycho enough that playing back-to-back weekends will probably
make them even happier. You could even squeeze the Open, Co-ed Nationals and
Nationals onto consecutive weekends, or have the Open then the Co-Ed
Nationals the weekend after and Nationals two weekends later. Anything to
have Nationals even one weekend earlier than 21/22 Sept! We may even get sun
that way :-)

My first tuppence-worth for 2002, Happy New Year to all frisbee players
everywhere!
