Subject: tips to reduce your junk snail mail

Precedence: bulk

Tired of the stupid stuff you get in the mail?
Wanna reduce your junk mail??

Tired of the stupid stuff you get in the mail?
Wanna reduce your junk mail??

Did you know that each person in the U.S. receives, on average, their weight
in junk mail, everyyear???

Also, that is equal to literally trees-worth of paper.

Below are some hints and tips on how to stop getting that stuff sent to you,
most only take a second or two. It does take some time before you will start
to notice results.

Send a note to the major mail order companies. Write something like, "Remove
my name and address from your mailing list and do not sell, lend, or lease my
name to others. Also, do not add my name in the future. Thank you very
much." Also, everytime you order something or make a donation, you have to
ask that group to not share your name with others.

The major ones:
* Mail Preference Service, c/o Direct Marketing Association, P.O Box 9008,
Farmingdale, NY 11735 (212) 768-7277
* R.L. Polk & Co. Name Deletion File, List Compilation Department, 6400
Monroe Blvd., Taylor, MI 48180, 1-800-873-7655
* Database America Compilation Department, 100 Paragon Dr., Montvale, NJ
07645, 1-800-223-7777

Note: Remember to include any different spellin you order something new or
make a donation, you might find your names gets back into circulation.

If you get an email for these places, please let me know. dtulchin@aol.com

If you are really gung-ho, here are some more suggestions:
* Send stuff back to the company it came from - often at their expense:
- For first class mail, write "Return to Sender, Don't send me your junk
mail, remove me from your list."
- If they provide a postage paid envelope, stuff their info into it and tell
them you wish to be removed from their current AND ANY FUTURE LISTS.
- You can refuse to accept any mail you don't want. Write refused to accept
on the outside. If it is third class (bulk mail), the mail becomes the Post
Office's responsibility.
* Get off of "Dear Resident" lists by looking for the address on the stuff
sent to you (it's usually only on the inside). The major companies are:
- Advo, Inc. List Service Supervisor, 239 West Service Rd., Hartford, CT
 06120 (203) 520-3200
- Cox Direct Operations Dept., 6030 North US 301, Elm City, NC 27822 (919)
236-4301
- Val-Pak Coupons, Address Information Dept., 8575 Largo Lakes Dr., Largo, FL
 33773 (800) 237-2871
* Stop unwanted telephone calls: Telephone Preference Service, Direct
Marketing Assoc. P.O. Box 9014, Farmingdale, NY 11735, (212) 768-7277
* Tell credit bureaus not to share your name: TRW - Opt-Out,
1-800-353-0809; Trans Union 1-800-680-7293; and Equifax Options (404)
885-8309
* If you have credit or other cards, ask your company to keep your name off
any lists and from being sold or given out.
* Don't fill out product warranty cards - you are covered, legally, without
it.
