Subject: Whitcombe Farm Disc Golf - Next Weekend!
Sender: owner-britdisc@csv.warwick.ac.uk
Precedence: bulk

Yes, summer's nearly over and September is nearly upon us. But the
fun continues - The Whitcombe Farm Disc Golf Course invites you for
an early Autumn Tournament next weekend (Sept 6 & 7).

All the usual details:

Accommodation: There are a few beds in the Summer House still
available ( 5 per person per night). Let me know if you want one.
Camping is available at 1 per person per night. And the usual array
of B&Bs in Beaminster.

Tournament: Minimum three rounds of strokeplay (if we get going early
and people are up for it, we might be able to squeeze in a fourth).
Top five will play off.

Entry fees:
 15 BDGA non-members
 12 BDGA members
 8 unwaged members & non-members
[ 1 from the above categories goes to the BDGA]
 5 aged 13-17
Free aged 12 and under

Where does the money go?
We invested over 2200 in the course last year erecting the baskets.
Year-on-year maintainance costs around another 150. This year, for
example, I paid 60 for a tree surgeon to enlarge the gap out of the
Badger Wood for Magic's Mansion (16th). So far, income from
tournaments and those who play rounds at other times has meant that
we've recouped about half the investment.

The next major improvement being considered is work to make the tees
flat(ter!) and reconsider some of the basket placings to reduce the
chances of those annoying roll-aways. Comments and suggestions about
course improvements are always very welcome. In particular I am
planning to change the second hole on the old course which is
becoming unplayable without a major amount of tree clearing that I'm
not keen to do.

My aim is to make Whitcombe one of the best disc golf courses in
Europe, and to bring it up to World Class Competition standard so
that the Americans and Europeans want to come over and compete too.

Are you coming?
If you can, let me know if you're planning to come so I have some
ideas on numbers. I'll be down at Whitcombe from Wednesday (01308 862366).

Looking forward to seeing you all in Dorset next weekend,
Toby
