Just a short note. The tour debate has been said to have been characterised
between the elite (shotgun, catch etc) who benefitted and the rest. I play
with First Touch who came 9th in the tour. We are not part of the elite,
but I overwhelmingly support the tour. It gives a focus to the season,
improves skills and avoids meaningless games.
I also support the emphasis on geo-teams (see Scott's comments about RED.)
The strength of First Touch is that we have been playing on the same bit of
park, every week of the year for nearly 4 years. That is how we have been
able to keep building despite periods where we have lost many of our
players. We are open to both beginners and more experienced players:
probably the best demonstration of this is that over half of our team never
played in a tournament when they joined us.
And finally, with all this griping about student teams, has no-one noticed
that i) student teams came 11 and 12th at nationals; ii) many teams had
student players (eg. OW! players with Oxford)?
