Information pack for Bristol Indoors
24th-25th January 1998
Venue
The event will take place at Whitchurch Sports Centre, Bamfield Road to
the South of Bristol on the 24th and 25th of January 1998. Play will be
from about 9am - 6pm on both days. Captains meeting is at 9:15am on
Saturday morning and you should aim to arrive by 9am. The first day's
play will be on two pitches with the teams being split into four pools
of 6. The second day will be on a single pitch for all of the quarters,
semis and finals (except for spoon quarters which are on the first day).
Directions:
From the East: Approaching Bristol on the M4 come off at J19 onto the
M32 following signs for Bristol/City Centre etc. Stay on the M32 till
the end where it becomes Newfoundland Way. At the traffic lights turn
left following signs for Temple Meads railway station. Go under the
underpass still following for the station. Past the station, get in the
right hand lane with A37 painted on the road go over the bridge and and
fork right onto the A37 at the traffic lights. Follow this for about 1
mile and then turn right onto the A4174 ring road. Another half mile and
then left onto Bamfield Road where the Sports Centre is signposted at
the turning. Keep on this road and you will see the sports centre after
about 1/2 mile, turn right into the car park just after the main
buildings.
From the North: Approaching Bristol on the M5 you should take the M4
east
towards Swindon before turning onto the M32 towards Bristol/City Centre.

As a last ditch effort, there may be space on the floor of various
Mythago
players, but we really don't want to do this, as it is not a Mythago
tournament, and so the will all get rather stroppy about it. If you are
really stumped, call Rob or Chris, and we might be able to fix something
up. Or suck up to any Headrush players you may know. Like Pete. He's got
a big house. Or so Laura tells me. Or is that something else? Anyway...
Saturday Night
The party on Saturday night will take place at La Rocca night club on
Triangle South which opens at around 10pm. A convenient pub to go to
beforehand is the Berkeley, (part of the Wetherspoons chain) situated on
Queens Road just along from the night club, as it is fairly large and
serves a wide variety of beers at acceptable prices. It also serves food
if you want to eat here as well otherwise some restaurants are listed
below.
Restaurants:
Dotted around the Triangle area are many restaurants and eateries so
there is a wide choice if you are prepared to look but below is a small
selection of the more popular choices.
Indian
All the cheaper curry houses are along a very short stretch of Cotham
Hill, which is about a 10-15 minute walk up Whiteladies Road from the
night club and the Berkeley. Pick of the bunch is Sultan's which serves
the best quality food but if you are looking for rapid service the Balti
House is worth a look. If you want a curry house closer by, the Rajdoot
Tandoori is at the top of Park Street although is more pricey.
Pizza
Half way down Park Street on the left hand side (going down) is Pizza
Plus
and nearer the top down a small side street off to the right (Berkeley
Square) is Pizza Express. Both have a good choice of Italian food at
reasonable prices.
Mexican
On Triangle West you will find Chiquitos, a Mexican restaurant which
also
has a huge cocktails menu which are at happy hour prices untill 8pm.
Just a word of warning, there is no McDonalds or Burger King in this
part of town if that's what you are after.
Tournament Format
First round:
In four pools of six each team will play the other five in the pool
getting 2 points for a win and 1 for a draw. In the event of two teams
being tied at the end of the first round the placings will depend on the
head-to-head result of their match.
Game length: 14 minutes
Changeover time: 1 minute
No half times or time outs
Second round:
After the first round is completed the 24 teams will split into top,
middle and bottom eights to play for the cup, plate and spoon
respectively in a standard quarter, semi and final format. Games will be
played to the times as shown below or to a point score (to be decided
later), whichever comes first. In the event of a tied game at the buzzer
the current point shall be completed making it sudden death.

Semis 15mins
Final round 17mins
Spoon/Plate Final 20mins
FINAL 24mins
Changeover: 1 minute
No time outs
No half times except for Spoon/Plate Finals
and FINAL at a point score to be decided
