A little pre-Worlds publicity. With perfect timing, last week the
Guardian's Notes & Queries printed the following question that just demanded
an answer. Today they printed my response, with one or two minor edits.
--------------------
Q Is there a sport or activity which I could take up in my late 20's and
still have a chance representing England competitively?
A I started playing Ultimate, a team game played with a frisbee, in 1995
when I was 26. This month I will be competing in the World Ultimate Club
Championships at St Andrews, Scotland. Over 1600 players from 89 teams
around the world will compete. The team I will be playing for is called
Overflow, the Great Britain team in the over-30's division. The age range
of the team is 30 to 49, the oldest of whom didn't start playing until the
age of 37!
--------------------
Good luck to all the other UK teams in St Andrews (even the young ones!)
