Mark,
I don't believe that the hike in cost will put off students from playing
Ultimate, there are plenty of tournaments during term time especially for
students that are a lot cheaper.
As I understand it, the Tour is an elite set of tournaments for those teams
SERIOUS about playing Ultimate. Most of these teams have squads of at least
12-15 players. If your student team can only manage 8 or 9 players for these
events, then I would say that you're not that serious.
If individuals amongst your student team ARE serious about playing quality
Ultimate, then they should find themselves a larger Open team for the summer
and join them for the Tour.
