Hello Britdisc,
I thought I'd let you know a bit more about the inaugural DISC JAM taking
place at Elthorne Park, near Ealing on Sunday 19th August.
The Bongos have hired Elthorne Park for the day and we would like to invite
anyone who enjoys throwing a disc to come along and support the event.
This is an unusual opportunity to participate in 5 disc sports in one day.
The event aims to be a lot of fun and relaxed with an emphasis on taking
part rather than a serious competition.
Another of our objectives is to highlight flying disc sports within the
Borough of Ealing and London. This is the 5th disc event at Elthorne Park
in the last 3 years. The Bongos are aiming to persuade the Council to build
a permanent disc golf course and also to consider flying disc sports in
their future planning for sport and education in the Borough. Already this
summer, 300 kids in Ealing have been learning to play disc golf, Ultimate
and Goaltimate as part of a summer sports scheme initiated by the Bongos
and Ealing's Sports Development team.
On the day we will be running a disc golf tournament - the 3rd Bongos
Pro-Am Classic.
1-2 Ultimate pitches will be marked out and we are hoping to run a relaxed
mini tournament for 4-5 teams, the 'Robbie Williams Super Cup'
A Goaltimate pitch will be set up and we are also hoping to run a mini
tournament, the 'Ozzie Osborne Allcomers Challenge Vase'
3 Double Disc Court pitches will be marked out and again we are hoping to
run a mini tournament, the 'Bob Marley Bowl'.
There will be a distance competition (last year a Swedish golfer tonked a
disc just over 140m).
We are also inviting any freestylers to come along and demonstrate their
skills and pass on any tips.
So that's the plan, anyone interested?
We are looking particularly for Ultimate and Goaltimate teams to register
for the event. Things were going very smoothly until the Ross on Wye
tournament was rekindled. Freak Show, Strawberry Jam, Playthings, Blue on
Blue have all pledged their support, but due to Ross on Wye they have lost
players.
Consequently we are looking for more teams and players.
So if you're not playing at Ross on Wye and you fancy a throw, please bare
us in mind.
