LONDON ULTIMATE SESSION - CLAPHAM COMMON, TUESDAY NIGHTS
========================================================
Okay, we pretty much know what's going on now.
Tuesday nights (starting April 29th) on Clapham Common is to be an
open-to-all practice. It will start around 7pm. There will be a league
competition, the traditional pickup game, and coaching sessions for
beginners. And the pub's really nearby...
Right now, I'm taking names and phone numbers of people who would like to
play in the league. We need a minimum of thirty players to make it work.
Put briefly, this is how we hope to run it...
Players are organised into three teams, playing a double round-robin over
six weeks (one league game per week). This means that your team plays a
league game on four out of the six weeks. On your "off" weeks, you can
play in the pickup game (or stay at home and watch telly). After six
weeks, we go "hooray, we/you won" then mix the teams up again and start
over.
Since one of the teams each week is NOT playing a league game, it gives
the separate "pickup" game a headstart in terms of numbers. It would seem
to be important to have a pickup game running alongside the league game,
for players who'd like to come down and play occasionally, but can't
commit to a league team.
Don't be put off by the fact that Shotgun will be there. Okay, I didn't
mean it like that - what I mean is that you don't need to be Great
Britain standard to come and play in the league. It really is open to
all, whatever level. Shotgun have other nights when they do their
super-serious practices. Tuesdays are as much about having fun and
meeting other players as it is about playing competitive Ultimate.
Please get in touch with me NOW if...
1) ...you'd like to play in the league. I need to know:
- your name
- your home phone number
- a daytime phone number (if possible)
- your e-mail address (if you have one)
- the BUF team you usually play for
(gives me a clue as to who you are)
2) ...you'd be prepared to coach new players occasionally (this won't
stop you from playing in the league as well). Send me your details as
above.
3) ...you just want more information
My phone number is 0171 223 7823
My mobile (might be easier to get me on this) is 0370 918719

Get in touch soon (like now). And please tell your team-mates.
Thanks. See you at Leicester.
